We were surprised to hear the news that the Bilderberg Keizerskroonhotel in Apeldoorn is showing an exhibition in its restaurant of about twenty works that some attribute to the great master on the occasion of the Vincent van Gogh year.
They come from the collection of Paul Kerrebijn, a painter and collector who exceptionally loaned them out. They have never been seen anywhere before.
These are drawings and paintings from the area around The Hague and Nuenen in somewhat somber colors next to exuberant impressions made in Arles Saint-Remy and Auvers sur l'Oise.
Of course there is skepticism. A famous Van Gogh expert says: I don't believe it! Just imagine: so much unknown work from a collector I've never heard of. That would be a world sensation!
And another: Probably another lame joke, I'd be surprised if it even resembles Vincent. That Kerrebijn may have painted them himself.
